Developed my Missouri territory of 45 agents by growth, agency management, applying sound underwriting decisions to write and retain profitable business; Monitored book of business, reunderwrote and repriced current book of business as required; Traveled with loss control for business inspections on select accounts; CPCU liaison/coordinator who promoted industry education to all employees by regular memos and other methods of communication. Began career at Safeco as a Senior Personal Lines Underwriter, underwriting homeowners, auto, watercraft, and umbrella policies.

Handled underwriting and marketing for 65 agents in the Missouri and central Illinois area. Editor-in-chief of a highly acclaimed newsletter produced for the agency force. Restructured department workflows, developed new procedures and implemented them to bring company into compliance with state regulations. Traveled regularly to build agency relationships as a production underwriter. Underwrote homeowners, auto, watercraft and umbrella policies, eventually moving to commercial business.

Managed personal lines marketing/underwriting department for this independent agency. Primary duties were marketing/underwriting new and renewal business, keeping producers/agents informed of company changes, company interfacing/processing new business and endorsements online, monthly reports, and liaison between agency and insurance carriers.
1991-1995    Senior Underwriter, Worcester Insurance Company (part of Harleysville Group)
Commercial and personal lines underwriting for my territory of Connecticut and New York. Managed territory of 98 agents and a 15 million commercial/personal lines book of business. Averaged 15% annual growth, with a territory loss ratio of 26%. Traveled as production underwriter one week each month to build agency relationships.
1978-1991    Senior Underwriting Analyst, Wausau Ins Co/Worldwide/Capital Holding Corp
Worked in many different departments during my tenure, including files, rating, accounting, and customer service before beginning underwriting career. Served as underwriting assistant, then promoted to underwriter in 1979, eventually moving to the “Special Account” division where affinity groups were underwritten. Was promoted to Senior Underwriting Analyst in the Research & Development unit. We developed a “scoring system” which would allow underwriting applications to be computer processed, with certain items editing out to the underwriters. This was very new to the industry at the time. Additional responsibilities included analyzing the current book of business and auditing the underwriters. I traveled quite frequently to review and then integrate business from companies that Capital Holding had purchased.
